The bidding team aims to win enough books to meet or beat their contract, while the other team tries to set them. At the end of the round, the bidding team scores 1 point per book over six if they meet or beat their contract. It’s more complex than basic Whist, but highly rewarding as you improve your bidding judgement, card counting, and partnership play. After the cards are dealt to four players, each player may pass or bid the number of books they believe their team can win above six. The bidding team is awarded the first book for taking the kitty. The winning bidder sets the trump suit (or direction for No Trumps), then picks up the kitty and discards the same number of cards. Bid Whist is a fast, strategic game of bidding and contracts where teams try to win “books” (tricks). Players then play tricks, following suit if possible; otherwise any card may be played, including trump. A four-player partnership trick-taking game built for practice, learning, and serious improvement. The game is won when a team reaches +7 or forces the opponents to -7. If they fail, they lose points based on the contract (according to your selected rules). Bids can be Uptown (high cards), Downtown (low cards), or No Trumps. No internet required. No sign-up.
