When my son and I were driving back to Houston, Texas from Fort Collins, Colorado we were wondering at what point we started getting back towards sea level. That gave me the idea to build a simple little app that just gives you a rough approximation of how far above sea level you are. I’m not completely confident I’m doing all that can be done to make the altitude 100% accurate. Please…do not use this if you are in a plane or need altitude to make a life or death decision. This is a simple utility that uses the iPhone’s GPS to tell you how high above sea level you are. It will also show you the horizontal accuracy to give you a better feel for the accuracy of the altitude. I'm also not sure this is the most accurate way to determine altitude. It's meant to be a very rough estimate. I also try to guess what city you are in.
