Fun but confusing

I just want to play. There are too many tabs on the page and I am not always sure where I am in the game. Sometimes I can play and at other times I need to buy gems, but I can still play regardless of whether I buy them or not. My puzzles show 6/5. How is that possible? How do I get to the harder levels?
