The Sedation Competency Simulator is designed to replicate a realistic sedation procedure to validate a sedation provider’s training and capability to apply knowledge, technical skills, and abilities to perform safe and effective sedation as defined by The Joint Commission and other accreditation organizations.  The Sedation Competency Simulator is designed to replicate a realistic sedation procedure to validate a sedation provider’s training and capability to apply knowledge, technical skills, and abilities to perform safe and effective sedation as defined by The Joint Commission (HR.01.06.01) and other accreditation organizations.  This certification program aims to ensure that nurses and other non-anesthesia sedation providers are trained in patient assessment, sedation and emergency medications, airway management, and emergency equipment for moderate sedation to provide competency for safe and effective patient sedation.  The mission of Sedation Certification is to provide certification to non-anesthesia sedation providers, such as nurses, to ensure they meet patient safety standards set by The Joint Commission and other healthcare accrediting organizations.  Sedation Certification is the benchmark for safe and effective sedation standardization and meets all criteria for TJC (The Joint Commission), DNV and AAAHC accrediting organizations.  • Identify from the post-competency checklist the needed additional competency training and experience for safe and effective sedation.  You will also receive a complimentary one-year membership with the American Association of Moderate Sedation Nurses (AAMSN).  • Use a pre-sedation competency checklist to self-evaluate current moderate sedation competencies.  • Discuss the Joint Commission guidelines for sedation.  • Discuss the pharmacology of common moderate sedation and reversal agents.  14 patient care categories, with eight sedation cases in each category.  • Identify critical elements of the patient preoperative assessment.  Pass and complete the evaluation to receive immediate notification to download and print your Contact Hours Certificate.  • List the four Mallampati classifications for airway assessment.  • Describe the various oxygen delivery systems and airway adjuncts.  • List the suggested sedative agents for case study #1, a 54 y/o male for colonoscopy.  Your frameable CSRN Certification will be mailed within 21 days.  Each section is gated and tested independently with an accumulative overall test score of 80% or better to pass.  Register, create your account, and log in with the password you will receive by email.  • Identify potential complications and appropriate treatment.  • Describe the monitoring considerations for a 62 y/o female for a breast biopsy.  • Discuss pre and post-operative techniques in suggestibility and semantics.  • The course is divided into 12 sections.  Visit AAMSN.org for more info.  One retesting is allowed.
