Through a short, smartphone-recorded video clip and computer vision, Vitacam Clinic transforms a regular mobile device into a measuring solution capable of calculating the respiratory rate and pulse of a human subject. The system utilises the developer's CE marked video processing technology, which has been certified as a class IIa medical device for clinical use under the EU Medical Device Directive, for European market and other countries recognizing the EU conformity assessment. At +/-3 breaths per minute for respiratory rate and +/-5 beats per minute for pulse, the accuracy of Vitacam measurements is comparable to other state of the art measuring devices on the market. Respiratory rate is derived from motion analysis of chest landmarks during inhalation and exhalation, while pulse is derived using remote photoplethysmography detecting changes in blood volume in the facial tissue, similar to a pulse oximeter. The server-side software used for analysis has been created in cooperation with one of the major university hospitals of Finland and its development follows an ISO 13485 compliant quality management system for medical devices. The application is intended for healthcare professionals and professional carers as a measuring and recording tool to provide inputs for clinical decision making. Vitacam must be used in conjunction with clinical signs and symptoms, and by seeking doctor's advice before making any medical decisions. In countries not recognizing the EU MDD conformity for a Medical Device, the application can only be used for informational or demonstration purposes. The pulse rate variability and regularity are wellness features and not intended for diagnosis. The analysis of the video clips is done on Google cloud servers in Hamina, Finland, and clips are erased immediately after analysis has been completed. It can also analyze your pulse rate variability and tell about the regularity of your pulse. Please note that the application requires separate login details for usage and is intended for professional use. Please check your national or local legislation, or contact the Vitacam team for further information. As a portable and adaptable solution, it is suitable for both periodic measurements and spot checks alike. The solution can be used for gathering observations of any adult human over the age of 18 who is not in need of critical care. Do not use the app as the sole basis for medical decisions.
